Visit Sumpango and its Giant Kite Festival:
You will be able to see kite flying everywhere, specially at the commentaries, but this festival at Sumpango is the biggest. The people that is participating on this event, they take basically a year to built kites bigger that 40 fits. This is a festival full of people from all over the world, food and much music.

Try Fiambre – the traditional food during “The Day of the Dead”:
There is much more traditional food but Fiambre is basically prepare during this time so, don’t miss the opportunity to try something new, unique and delicious – We dare you to try this delicious food made with a bunch of many different vegetables, poultry, beef, pork, and fish, different kind of cheese and a sour kind of dressing are also added.

It doesn’t matter where you are in Guatemala, all the cemeteries are decorated with flowers, some of them can have music, many people coming and going, food and much love. All of us thinking about those people that, one day, were part of our daily life and now are living into our heart.

Todosantos – drunk horse race:
Yes, you are reading right – this is a unique “Race” in Guatemala. During this days, hundreds of Maya men dressed in their folk costumes dangle through the packed village, singing along to the cheerful tunes from the many marimba street bands, before jumping on a horse and frantically racing it through town.
After a night of full party and much alcohol, next day, November first, the race starts with about 100 meters of deafens to give the horse and its drunk cowboy the opportunity to win.

I adore the bright colors and lively festivities of Dia de Los Muertos. It’s a wonderful celebration to remember those who have lost. Guatemala would be an absolute bucket list item for me to celebrate the holiday.
